Suet Chef
School age learners are introduced to a 3D printer and shown how the tool can be used to create a two-piece mold that they use to make three-dimensional bird feeders. The project focuses on three bird species found in Western Pennsylvania and information takeaways provide additional details on each species habitat, migration patterns, nest construction and seed preferences. Each learner identifies the bird(s) they hope to attract with their feeder, and customizes the seed mix they pack into the 3D printed mold. Custom laser cut paper containers are provided as travel packaging for each unique feeder. This hands-on project involves age-appropriate science and creative decision making.
